What are ICTs?

Before we can start looking at reasons why ICTs are important, we need to know what ICTs are.

ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology. Students need to learn how to "access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively in all learning areas at school, and in their lives beyond school". They can do this by implementing a wide range of ICTs in the classroom.

Examples of various ICTs and what they can be used for will be shown in more details in the "Create", "Appreciate", and "Communicate" pages on this website.

The link "ICT General Capability" directs you to the Australian Curriculum - Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability page. This goes into greater detail of the expectations placed on students in regards to their use of ICTs in school.
